Dr. Kevin_Olson

This has been a massively busy week for me. So busy in fact that I didn’t get a post created yesterday. Sorry.

But this is one thing that I did.

I attended a workshop by Dr. Kevin Olson at Music City in Spokane Washington. He is a living modern day composer and music writer. It was such an honor to meet him. He played some of his compositions on the piano for us…a room filled with music teachers, and we loved it! ! My favorite was the jazzy sounds that he has added to the traditional Christmas music we enjoy. I have that book on order and can hardly wait to start working in it!

He has written original sheet music and workbooks that you, me, and our kids will be playing from for generations to come. Here’s a link to an article about him. http://www.usu.edu/ust/index.cfm?article=47946

A story I enjoyed was one that he told from his wife.

She’s also a piano teacher and she gave one of her students a piece of music to learn that her husband had written. The student looked at the music, noticed Dr. Olson’s picture on the back side and said, “Hey, wait a minute, I just saw this guy mowing your lawn!”

I guess even living composers have regular chores that have to be completed.

Enjoy your weekend…even if you have to mow a lawn first
