Father's Day Celebration

Wow! What a huge Weekend. Father’s Day was the big news at my house while Car d’Lane was celebrated in town. It rained and was generally nasty . I didn’t go to the presentation of the cars because of the bad weather. But I did see some vintage cars driving down Ramsey Road today. However, the important thing at my house was Father’s Day. My father died several years ago, but I watched as the five of our children called or sent cards or gifts to their father.

"Father’s Day is a day set aside to honor fathers and is the creation of Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, whose father, a Civil War veteran, raised her and her five siblings after their mother died in childbirth. She is said to have had the idea in 1909 while listening to a sermon on Mother's Day, which at the time was becoming established as a holiday. Local religious leaders supported the idea, and the first Father's Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, the month of the birthday of Dodd's father. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge gave his support to the observance, and in 1966 President Lyndon B. Johnson officially proclaimed it a national holiday. Observance on the third Sunday of June was decreed by law in 1972." http://www.history.com/topics/fathers-day

I think my husband definitely deserves honors on Father’s day. He has been my faithful companion, (Not an easy task!). He has supported five children and me while I got to be a stay at home. Recently he had a couple of TIA’s, transient ischemic attacks, or stroke -like symptoms that last for 2 to 6 hours. My son and I took him into Kootenai Medical Center and an MRI showed had he has been having these for some time.

As a wife, I knew that he was changing and that the brilliant Doctor that I married was dramatically different, but I didn’t know why. I have a lot of to learn about this condition. I’ll write more about this as I learn about it. Today I only wanted to acknowledge what an Iron Man he has been to me and the children. He buzzes around here, doing everything that I don’t get the time for, and recently after much recovery and a qualifying driver’s test from H E double toothpicks, took a job being a Courtesy Driver for a local newspaper.
